John CLEMANCE – Seaman of “Outer Gabbard” light vessel (LV50) 1911

John Harry James CLEMANCE born Q1 1883 in Essex, bap. 12 Oct 1883 He was the second of 8 children of James (1856-1906) and Ellen Elizabeth GOODLEY (1859-1936)

Father James was a steamship stoker who died 1906.

1891 John was with parents and siblings at Myrtle Cottages, Harwich
1901 John not found (at sea?) but parents & siblings family at Talbot Street, Harwich, where they were in 1911

1911 – John was crew onboard “Outer Gabbard” – seaman, listed as single.

He was awarded the Mercantile Marine Ribbon for Trinity House Service in 1919

1920s he appears on the Electoral Register in Harwich living with his mother.

1924 he was admitted to the Dreadnought Seaman’s Hospital Aged 41, lamplighter Outer Gabbard Light vessel. His home address being 8 Main Road, Bathside, Harwich. Complaint & discharge date left blank.

John died in 1929, buried 3 Apr at St. Nicholas, Harwich.

Not married, no children.
