Arthur DURRANT – Seaman of “Outer Gabbard” light vessel (LV50) 1911

Arthur John DURRANT was born 29 Mar 1882, bap. 27 Mar 1883 4th child of William and Ellen SMITH. His father was a railway horseman 1891 census, and a railway gateman 1901.

Arthur was with his family at Albermarle Street, Harwich on 1891, but not found on the 1901 census (aged 19).

Arthur married in 1908 Q2 at Blything, Suffolk to Bertha BIRD (10 Jul 1879- aft. 1939). They had 2 sons Leonard S. born 4 Jan 1911 in Harwich and Winston Arthur Ronald bap. 4 Aug 1912 in Harwich.

By 1911 when Arthur was seaman on board Outer Gabbard LV, his wife and son were living with her widowed mother (Ann BIRD) at Reydon in Suffolk.

Arthur left Trinity Service and became a railwayman, he joined the National Union of Railwaymen 14 Oct 1916, GER Harwich.

Arthur died 1921, buried 12 September aged 39, residing 3 Stour View, Dovercourt, Harwich.

Of his children:

Leonard married Gladys CHOWDERY and died 1990. No children found.

Winston Arthur died 1933, unmarried
